Dyes, Pigments & Colorants
Dyes, pigments and colorants are the broad family of colouring materials used to impart colour to textiles, plastics, coatings, inks, paper, leather, cosmetics and construction products. The two core distinctions are functional: dyes are soluble or solubilised colorants that bond chemically or physically with a substrate, while pigments are insoluble particulate colorants dispersed within a medium. Buyers source across this family for both decorative and functional colour.
Products are normally identified by Colour Index (CI) generic name and constitution number, for example a CI Pigment or CI Acid/Reactive/Disperse dye designation, alongside grade parameters such as colour strength, shade, hue angle, fastness ratings (light, wash, heat, migration), particle size and oil/binder demand. Forms include powders, granules, pre-dispersions, liquids and pastes. The buyer's shade card and CI reference govern selection; HS code is provided on documentation.
