- Dye vs pigment — which should I specify for my application?
- Rule of thumb: specify dyes where the colorant must dissolve and bond to a substrate, as in textile, leather and paper dyeing. Specify pigments where you need an insoluble colorant dispersed in plastics, coatings or inks with high opacity and heat or migration resistance. - What is the typical MOQ across dyes and pigments?
- Typical MOQ starts around 25-100 kg per shade for specialty colorants and roughly 500 kg to one FCL for commodity grades. Lab-dip and shade-approval samples are usually available before bulk commitment. Mixed-shade orders consolidated in one spec package can accept smaller quantities per line, subject to manufacturer minimums.
- What compliance documentation is available, including azo screening?
- Partner manufacturers can provide CoA per batch, SDS and CLP/GHS classification, plus screening against REACH Annex XVII entry 43 for azo colorants that may release listed aromatic amines in textile and leather goods, where required. REACH registration or Only Representative coverage is coordinated for EU and SABER/SASO for Saudi Arabia.
- How are colorants packed and shipped?
- Powders ship in 25 kg bags or fibre drums, liquids and pastes in lined drums or IBCs, and bulk in FIBC/jumbo bags. Most finished colorants are non-hazardous for transport; any classified item is shipped to ADR/IMDG. Shelf life and storage conditions are stated on the datasheet as a spec note, not as handling advice.

- A subset of Himalay's partner network supplies textiles, coatings, plastics, ink, paper and cosmetic buyers, with shade matching to a physical sample or CI reference. Share your spec, shade card and SDS at inquiry stage and we match a qualified manufacturer; custom shades are developed against approved lab dips.
- What is the typical lead time to EU or GCC ports?
- Catalogue shades typically run 4-8 weeks for production, QC and documentation after shade approval, then sea freight; custom shades add development time. Full CIF to Rotterdam, Antwerp, Jebel Ali or Dammam is typically 8-12 weeks door-to-door for standard packed orders.
