Bolts
Bolts are externally threaded fasteners, paired with nuts, used to clamp two or more components together under axial load. India is one of the world's largest producers and exporters of industrial bolting — Ludhiana, Rohtak, Rajkot, and Coimbatore host globally competitive bolt-making clusters supplying automotive, construction, oil & gas, wind-energy, and general engineering customers across Europe, the Middle East, North America, Africa, and Southeast Asia.
Primary bolt families: hex-head structural bolts (ISO 4014/4017, DIN 931/933, ASTM A325, ASTM A490 — the workhorse of steel-structure construction); high-strength heavy-hex bolts (ASTM A193 Grade B7 and B16, A354 Grade BC/BD — for flange bolting, pressure-vessel service, and high-temperature process connections); stud bolts (fully threaded rod with two nuts — ASTM A193 B7/B16, A320 L7/L43 for low-temperature — most common for piping flange connections); socket-head cap screws (DIN 912, ISO 4762 — precision assembly, high-strength compact head); stainless bolts (A2/A4 grades per ISO 3506, or ASTM A193 B8/B8M Class 1/2 for Austenitic 304/316 in pressure service); and specialty bolts (wind-tower, anchor, U-bolt, eye-bolt, and custom forgings).
Grading specifies the strength class and is the most important spec after the geometry. Metric bolts are graded 4.6, 5.6, 5.8, 8.8, 10.9, 12.9 (the number indicates nominal tensile strength and yield ratio). Imperial bolts use SAE grades 2, 5, 8 for general, or ASTM A193 B7 (typical flange-bolt grade, quenched and tempered chrome-moly), B16 (higher temperature), B8/B8M (stainless 304/316), or ASTM A320 L7/L43 (low-temperature cryogenic service with Charpy impact requirements). For offshore and sour-service applications, ASTM A193 B7M with hardness controlled to NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 limits is specified.
Coatings and finishes: plain (oiled), zinc plated (commercial corrosion protection, not suitable above 200°C or for high-strength bolts due to hydrogen embrittlement risk), hot-dip galvanised (HDG — heavier zinc coating, structural outdoor use per ISO 1461), PTFE/xylan coating (marine and chemical corrosion resistance), cadmium plating (aerospace, rarely for general industrial use), and specialty coatings like Magni 565 or Doerken Delta-Tone for automotive and wind.
Himalay's bolt-supply orchestration includes batch certification (MTC 3.1 or 3.2 per heat), dimensional inspection, hardness testing, tensile and proof-load verification, full traceability from billet to finished bolt, and packaging in kegs, boxes, or bulk as specified. For EU import, CE marking under EN 15048-1 (structural bolting) or EN 14399 (pre-loaded structural bolts) is coordinated where applicable.
