    About Machine Bolts

Machine bolts are externally threaded fasteners with a full or partial machined thread, used to clamp two or more components in general machinery, equipment frames, gearboxes, flanges and assemblies where a nut or tapped hole provides the mating thread. They are the workhorse fastener of mechanical engineering: dimensionally standardised, available across a wide strength range and easy to torque to a defined preload. The category covers hex-head, square-head and heavy-hex machine bolts in metric and inch series. Dimensions and head forms typically follow ISO 4014/4017 (hex), DIN 931/933 (partial and full thread) and ASME B18.2.1 for inch heavy-hex, with thread forms to ISO metric coarse and fine or UNC/UNF. Strength is set by ISO 898-1 property classes 8.8, 10.9 and 12.9 or by SAE J429 grades 5 and 8 in the inch system, where class 8.8 corresponds to roughly 800 MPa tensile. Materials range from medium-carbon and alloy steels to stainless A2/A4 (304/316) for corrosive duty and brass for electrical work. Tolerances on thread fit (6g/6H) and head bearing surface are controlled for repeatable assembly. Coatings include zinc electroplate, hot-dip galvanizing to ASTM F2329, zinc-flake (Geomet/Dacromet) and Xylan/PTFE for controlled friction. Himalay coordinates material traceability with EN 10204 3.1 certificates, mechanical test reports covering tensile, proof load and hardness, thread-gauge inspection and salt-spray data for coated lots; PED-CE documentation for bolts entering EU pressure assemblies and SABER routing for GCC entry are coordinated as part of the standard order flow.
