    Quarter-turn valves used for fast shutoff, offering tight sealing and low torque operation.

    Ball valves are quarter-turn isolation valves that use a rotating spherical closure member with a central bore to start or stop flow. A 90° rotation of the stem moves the valve from fully open (bore aligned with flow) to fully closed (bore perpendicular to flow). They are the most common isolation valve in industrial piping: fast-acting, bubble-tight when properly selected, low-maintenance, and available across a wide pressure and material range.

    Primary design variants: floating ball valves (ball is pushed onto the downstream seat by line pressure — simple, cost-effective, suited to smaller sizes and moderate pressures, generally up to 2"–6" and ASME 150–300); trunnion-mounted ball valves (ball is held on fixed trunnions, seats are spring-energised — higher pressure capability, larger bores, API 6D standard for pipeline and oil & gas service, typically 4"–48" and ASME 150–2500); 3-way and 4-way ball valves (for flow diverting, mixing, or switching); and top-entry ball valves (serviceable in-line without removing from the pipeline).

    Material options range from brass and bronze (water, low-pressure HVAC), through WCB/A216 carbon steel (general process), CF8/CF8M/A351 stainless (corrosive service), duplex and super-duplex (seawater, high-chloride), to Inconel, Monel, and Hastelloy (aggressive chemicals, high temperature). Seat materials are typically PTFE, reinforced PTFE (RPTFE), PEEK, Devlon V-API, or metal-seated for high-temperature and abrasive service. End connections include threaded (NPT, BSP), socket-weld, butt-weld, and flanged (ANSI B16.5 RF/RTJ in 150, 300, 600, 900, 1500, 2500 classes).

    Operation options cover manual (lever or gear), pneumatic (spring-return or double-acting actuators, often with NAMUR-mounted solenoids, limit switches, and positioners), electric (multi-turn or quarter-turn actuators with failsafe battery options), and hydraulic. For emergency shutdown (ESD) applications, fire-safe certification to API 607 or API 6FA is commonly specified.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Floating vs trunnion-mounted — which should I specify?
    Rule of thumb: floating ball valves are cost-effective for sizes ½"–6" and pressure classes up to ASME 300 (roughly up to PN50), in general process and utility service. Trunnion-mounted ball valves are the right choice for sizes 4" and above, higher pressure classes (ASME 600+), pipeline service (API 6D), and any application where operating torque would be prohibitively high on a floating design. Trunnion valves also offer inherent double-block-and-bleed capability between the two seats, important for hazardous service isolation.
    What's the MOQ for standard ball valves?
    For floating ball valves in sizes ½" to 2" in brass or SS316: typical MOQ starts at 50–200 pieces depending on the manufacturer and configuration. For trunnion-mounted API 6D ball valves (4"+ carbon or stainless): as few as 5–10 pieces per size and material combination. Mixed-size orders consolidated across a single spec package reduce per-unit cost and typically accept smaller quantities per line.
    Are fire-safe certified ball valves available?
    Yes. Himalay's partner manufacturers produce ball valves tested and certified to API 607 (soft-seated fire test) and API 6FA (full-scale fire test) as standard options for emergency shutdown (ESD), hydrocarbon isolation, and safety-critical service. Test certificates are provided with the shipment. Manufacturers also hold certification for API 641 low-emission service (fugitive emissions) where environmental regulations demand it.
    What actuators can be supplied factory-mounted?
    Pneumatic (spring-return or double-acting, rack-and-pinion or scotch-yoke, typically SMC, Festo, EL-O-Matic, or Indian-made equivalents), electric (Rotork, Auma, Bernard, or Indian-made equivalents with 24 VDC, 110/230 VAC options), and hydraulic (for high-torque, large-bore, or subsea-adapted applications). All actuated assemblies are factory-tested with the valve, including stroking time, torque output, limit-switch adjustment, and any specified safety integrity (SIL) qualification.
    Which end-client approvals do your MSME partners hold?
    A subset of Himalay's partner network holds approvals from Shell, ExxonMobil, BP, Total, Aramco, ADNOC, PDO, QatarEnergy, KOC, and ONGC, and/or holds API 6D monograms.     How long does a standard ball valve order take?
    For catalogue configurations in carbon or stainless steel up to 6" / ASME 300: 3–4 weeks manufacture + test + packaging, then sea freight. For larger trunnion-mounted API 6D valves or specialty metallurgy: 8–12 weeks manufacturing. Full CIF delivery time to Rotterdam, Antwerp, Jebel Ali, or Dammam: typically 8–12 weeks door-to-door for standard configurations, 14–20 weeks for engineered specials.
