About Inline Gearmotors
Inline gearmotors are integrated drive units in which an electric motor and a coaxial (in-line) reduction gearbox share a common axis, with the motor pinion driving the first gear stage directly. Because input and output shafts are collinear, they deliver torque multiplication and speed reduction in a straight, space-efficient package, eliminating the separate motor coupling and adapter needed for a discrete reducer-plus-motor build.
The reduction element is most often helical (occasionally planetary or helical-worm), giving high efficiency — commonly around 96% for two stages and 94% for three stages. Catalogue ratios typically span roughly 5:1 to 100:1 per unit, with extended multi-stage builds reaching several hundred to one; output torque ranges from a few Nm to roughly 18,000 Nm, and integral motor power from about 0.12 kW to 160 kW. The integral motor is built to IEC 60034 (or NEMA), with efficiency classes IE3 (premium) and increasingly IE4 (super-premium) per IEC 60034-30-1. Gear rating follows AGMA 2001/2101 or ISO 6336 with quality per ISO 1328.
Gears are case-hardened alloy steel (20MnCr5 / 18CrNiMo7-6), ground for quiet, efficient mesh, in cast-iron or aluminium housings on rolling bearings with reinforced seals; surface treatment and IP55/IP65 ingress protection are available.
Configuration includes solid or hollow output shafts and flange (B5/B14) or foot mounting, foot-, flange- and shaft-mount positions, brake motors, forced or convection cooling, and inverter-duty windings; lubrication is mineral or synthetic PAO (ISO VG 220/320), frequently lifetime-filled on smaller frames. Service factor is selected per AGMA guidance.
Himalay's MSME partners manufacture inline gearmotors with gear-rating to AGMA / ISO 6336, integral motors to IEC 60034, ISO 9001 quality systems, load and efficiency test reports and traceability; CE (Machinery Directive, plus EMC/LVD for the motor), ATEX/IECEx for hazardous areas, and SABER (Saudi Arabia) coordinated as part of the standard order flow.
