Planetary Gearmotor
A planetary gearmotor integrates a planetary reducer with an electric motor into a single coaxial unit, so the motor drives the sun gear directly and the planet carrier delivers the geared output. Combining motor and gearbox removes a coupling and adapter, saves space, and provides a ready-to-install drive package for conveyors, mixers, agitators, hoists and general automation where a complete motor-plus-reduction solution is wanted.
The reducer section typically gives single-stage ratios of about 3:1 to 10:1 and multi-stage ratios to roughly 100:1 or more, while the motor section is commonly an IEC three-phase induction or, increasingly, a permanent-magnet/servo motor to IEC 60034. Output torque ranges from a few Nm to several hundred Nm depending on frame, with per-stage efficiency around 94-97%. Gear load capacity follows ISO 6336 or AGMA 2001/2101 and accuracy ISO 1328 / AGMA 2015. Backlash in standard gearmotors is typically around 8-15 arcmin, with reduced-backlash builds available where positioning matters. Motor ingress protection is commonly IP55, with IP65 and ATEX/IECEx versions for demanding environments.
Construction combines case-hardened alloy-steel gears (20MnCr5 / 18CrNiMo7-6), cast-iron or aluminium housings, rolling-element bearings and shaft seals, with the motor built to the relevant IEC frame and insulation class.
Configuration covers integral motor power and pole count, ratio, solid or hollow output shaft, foot/flange (B5/B14) mounting per IEC 60072, terminal-box orientation, optional brake, encoder or VFD compatibility, and mineral or synthetic lubrication (often lifetime-filled).
