- How do I choose between a safety/relief valve, a regulator, and a breather valve?
- It depends on the function. If the device must protect a vessel or line against over-pressure and reseat after relieving, you want a spring-loaded or pilot-operated pressure relief/safety valve sized per API 520/521 to an API 526 orifice. If you need to hold a stable, lower downstream pressure during normal operation, that is a pressure-regulating (reducing) valve. If you are protecting an atmospheric or low-pressure storage tank against both over-pressure and vacuum from normal in/out-breathing and thermal effects, that is a combined pressure/vacuum (breather) valve sized to API 2000. Many tank and vessel packages use a regulator upstream and a relief or breather valve as independent over-pressure protection.
- What's the MOQ across pressure control and relief valves?
- It varies by sub-type and engineering content. Small commodity threaded relief or safety valves (1/2"β2", bronze/SS): typical MOQ starts at 25β100 pieces depending on manufacturer and configuration. Flanged API 526 relief valves and engineered breather valves: often as few as 5β20 pieces per size/orifice/material, since each is largely build-to-order. Mixed-spec packages consolidated under one order generally accept smaller quantities per line item.
- Which certifications and code stamps can be supplied?
- Where specified, partner manufacturers supply pressure relief and safety valves with ASME Section VIII Div.1 'UV' code stamp and National Board capacity certification, or EN ISO 4126 / PED 2014/68/EU CE marking for the European market, with seat-tightness tested to API 527. NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 metallurgy for sour service and SIL-suitability documentation can be arranged where the application demands it. Set-pressure and capacity certificates ship with each valve.
- How are these valves configured β set pressure, orifice and backpressure?
- Because the family is self-actuated, configuration centres on set pressure (the cracking pressure, typically certified within Β±3% per code), the required relieving capacity (translated into an API 526 orifice letter DβT for relief valves, or a flow coefficient for regulators and breather valves), and the backpressure regime. Conventional designs suit constant backpressure below ~10% of set; balanced-bellows handle variable or higher superimposed/built-up backpressure; pilot-operated designs tolerate the highest backpressure with tight shutoff close to set.
