- When should I choose a helical gearbox over a worm gearbox?
- As a rule of thumb, helical gearboxes are preferred where efficiency and continuous duty matter: per-stage efficiency is generally near 96-98 percent, so even multi-stage units stay well above 90 percent, against roughly 60-90 percent for worm drives. Choose helical for high power, low running cost and long thermal duty. Worm units can still win where you need a compact right-angle drive, very high single-stage ratio, or inherent self-locking. Where a right angle is needed without the worm penalty, a bevel-helical unit is usually the better answer.
- What's the MOQ for helical gearboxes?
- It depends on frame size and ratio. For large industrial helical units (high torque, engineered ratios) MOQ can start as low as 1-5 pieces per size. For smaller standard frames and helical gearmotors produced to catalogue, typical MOQ starts around 20-50 pieces depending on manufacturer and configuration. Mixed-size orders consolidated under one spec package generally accept smaller quantities per line.
- Which certifications and compliance options are available?
- Where specified, partner manufacturers supply units with CE marking under the Machinery Directive, ATEX/IECEx for hazardous-area duty, and ISO 9001 quality systems. Gear-rating documentation to AGMA 2101 / ISO 6336, load and efficiency test reports, and material traceability can be provided. IP55/IP65 ingress and specific surface treatments are available where the application demands them.
- What ratios, mountings and output options can be configured?
- Single-stage reductions typically run about 1.25:1 to 8:1, with two- and three-stage trains reaching roughly 200:1 and beyond. Inputs include IEC/NEMA motor adapters, servo flanges or free input shafts; outputs are solid or hollow shaft, shrink disc or flange. Foot, B5/B14 flange and shaft-mounted positions are standard. Lubrication is ISO VG 220/320 mineral or synthetic PAO, with service factor selected per AGMA SF against your duty.
- Do your partners supply to OEMs and to end-client specifications?
- A subset of Himalay's partner network supplies to OEMs in material handling, cement, sugar and EV drivetrains, building to their drawings and approved-vendor requirements. Share your spec or drawing at inquiry stage and we match a qualified partner; supplier audits can be arranged on a development track where an end client requires them.
- How long does a helical gearbox order take?
- Catalogue gearmotors and standard frames: typically 6-10 weeks manufacture, test and packaging. Larger engineered helical units: 12-16 weeks. Full CIF to Rotterdam, Antwerp, Jebel Ali or Dammam is typically 8-12 weeks door-to-door for standard product, and 14-20 weeks for engineered or large units.
