Bevel Helical Gearbox
A bevel-helical gearbox is a right-angle gear drive that combines a spiral-bevel gear stage, which turns the drive through 90 degrees, with one or more helical stages that provide most of the speed reduction. Routing the drive through a bevel set lets the unit deliver a right angle while keeping the high efficiency and smooth running of helical gearing, rather than accepting the larger losses of a worm. The result is a compact, efficient right-angle reducer used widely in material handling, cement, sugar, cranes and bulk-conveying drives where layout demands a 90-degree turn.
Units are typically two- or three-stage (one bevel plus one or two helical stages), covering wide ratios from roughly 5:1 up to about 200:1 and higher across stages. Because both gear types roll rather than slide, overall efficiency is generally high, commonly cited near 94-97 percent depending on stages, well above a comparable worm drive. Power scales with frame size from small gearmotors to several hundred kW. Load rating follows AGMA 2001/2101 or ISO 6336, with enclosed-drive practice per AGMA 6010 and gear quality to ISO 1328 / AGMA 2015.
The spiral-bevel set and helical gears are case-hardened, ground alloy steel (20MnCr5 / 18CrNiMo7-6) for accuracy and load capacity. Housings are cast iron, running on SKF/FAG-equivalent bearings with shaft seals, breather/drain provision and ISO VG 220/320 mineral or synthetic PAO lubrication.
Output is available as solid or hollow shaft, shrink disc or flange, with foot, flange and shaft-mounted (torque-arm) positions. Inputs accept IEC/NEMA motor adapters, servo flanges or free input shafts, and several mounting orientations are offered for the right-angle layout. Service factor is selected per AGMA SF against shock and thermal duty.
Himalay's MSME partners manufacture bevel-helical gearboxes and gearmotors with gear-rating to AGMA/ISO 6336, ISO 9001 quality systems, load/efficiency test reports and traceability; CE (Machinery Directive), ATEX/IECEx for hazardous areas, and SABER (Saudi Arabia) coordinated as part of the standard order flow.
