  • Parallel Shaft Helical Gearbox

A parallel-shaft helical gearbox transmits torque through helical gear stages whose input and output shafts run parallel but offset from one another. The offset lets the output sit low and to the side of the input, which makes the unit easy to side-mount against a machine frame and to fit directly onto a driven shaft through a hollow bore. With every stage helical, the drive keeps high efficiency and the smooth, quiet meshing characteristic of angled teeth, which is why parallel-shaft helical units are a mainstay of conveyor, agitator, extruder and bulk-handling drives.

These units are typically two- or three-stage, covering wide ratios; single-stage steps near 1.25:1 to 8:1 build to roughly 200:1 and higher across stages. Per-stage efficiency is generally high, commonly cited near 96-98 percent, so multi-stage units usually remain well above 90 percent overall. Power ranges from sub-kW gearmotors to several hundred kW on large frames. Load rating follows AGMA 2001/2101 or ISO 6336, with enclosed-drive practice per AGMA 6010 and gear quality to ISO 1328 / AGMA 2015. Foot-, flange- and shaft-mounted (hollow-shaft with torque arm) versions cover most layouts.

Gears are case-hardened alloy steel (20MnCr5 or 18CrNiMo7-6) with ground or lapped profiles. Housings are cast iron (aluminium on the smallest frames), with SKF/FAG-equivalent bearings, shaft seals, breather/drain provision and ISO VG 220/320 mineral or synthetic PAO lubrication.

Hollow output shafts take keyed bores or keyless shrink-disc fittings; solid shafts and output flanges are alternatives. Inputs accept IEC/NEMA motor adapters, servo flanges or free input shafts, and the housing's lateral faces allow several mounting positions. Service factor is selected per AGMA SF against the duty profile.

Himalay's MSME partners manufacture parallel-shaft helical gearboxes and gearmotors with gear-rating to AGMA/ISO 6336, ISO 9001 quality systems, load/efficiency test reports and traceability; CE (Machinery Directive), ATEX/IECEx for hazardous areas, and SABER (Saudi Arabia) coordinated as part of the standard order flow.
