Polycarbonate
Polycarbonate (PC) is an amorphous engineering thermoplastic combining high optical clarity with outstanding impact strength, heat resistance, and dimensional stability. It is used for safety glazing and sheet, automotive lighting and exterior parts, electrical and electronic housings, optical media, medical devices, and water bottles, where transparency and toughness must coexist.
Grades are specified by melt-flow rate (MFR per ISO 1133 at 300 C/1.2 kg), with low-viscosity grades for thin-wall and optical moulding through high-viscosity grades for extrusion and high-impact parts. Buyers specify optical/general-purpose, UV-stabilised, flame-retardant (UL94 V-0/V-2), glass-filled, and medical or food-contact variants, with glass reinforcement raising stiffness and heat resistance for structural housings. As a processing spec note, PC is hygroscopic and requires thorough pre-drying (commonly around 120 C) before moulding to prevent hydrolysis and loss of clarity. Food-contact-suitable grades carry EU 10/2011 declarations where required; note BPA-related migration is regulated, and buyers may specify accordingly.
Forms are virgin clear or tinted granules, moisture-barrier packed. Packaging is typically 25 kg moisture-barrier bags palletised, 500-1000 kg FIBC/jumbo bags, or octabins, with FCL consignments standard for EU and GCC importers.
For EU buyers, REACH registration is confirmed and an Only Representative pathway coordinated where required; CLP labelling and SDS accompany shipments, and SABER/SASO is arranged for Saudi Arabia. Himalay's verified manufacturer/exporter partners supply polycarbonate with CoA per batch (MFR, where applicable UL rating and moisture), SDS, REACH/CLP compliance coordinated for EU, GHS labelling, and SABER for Saudi Arabia handled as part of the standard order flow.
