About Permanent Metal Moulds
Permanent metal moulds are reusable metal moulds used in gravity and low-pressure permanent-mould (gravity die) casting, where molten metal is poured or fed under low pressure into a steel or cast-iron mould that is opened and reused for many cycles. The reusable mould gives better mechanical properties, finer grain, tighter tolerances, and better surface finish than sand casting, and suits medium-to-high volumes of aluminium, magnesium, zinc, and copper-alloy parts such as pistons, manifolds, housings, and pump bodies.
The mould (die) is the core tooling, typically machined from hot-work tool steels such as H13 for ferrous-compatible service or alloyed cast iron, with cores, ejection, and cooling channels integrated. Permanent-mould castings commonly achieve tighter ISO 8062 tolerance grades than sand casting and good finish, reducing machining stock. Aluminium permanent-mould castings are commonly specified to relevant Aluminum Association and ASTM B26/B108 standards, with EN equivalents where required.
Mould materials and surface treatments (nitriding, coatings) are selected for thermal fatigue and die life; H13 die elements are frequently hardened around HRC 44-50 and surface-treated.
Configuration covers gravity tilt-pour and low-pressure feeding, single and multi-cavity moulds, sand or metal cores, and post-cast machining, T6 heat treatment, and finishing, with first-article and metallurgical verification before series release.
Himalay coordinates material traceability via EN 10204 3.1 certificates where requested, chemical and mechanical test reports, NDT (RT/DPI) and dimensional reports, pressure-test certificates where relevant, and PED/CE documentation support, all coordinated as part of the standard order flow so castings integrate cleanly into your build.
