High Impact Polystyrene
High impact polystyrene (HIPS) is polystyrene modified with around 5-10% polybutadiene rubber to deliver substantially higher impact strength and toughness than GPPS, at the cost of transparency (HIPS is opaque). It is a workhorse for refrigerator liners, appliance and electronics housings, TV and instrument cabinets, toys, point-of-sale displays, and thermoformed sheet for packaging and disposable items.
Grades are specified by melt-flow rate (MFR per ISO 1133 at 200 C/5 kg), Izod impact strength, gloss level, and rubber content, with high-impact, high-gloss, high-flow, and high-heat variants offered. Buyers also specify environmental stress-crack resistance, mould-release, and any flame-retardant or UV requirement for appliance and electrical end uses, while high-flow grades ease complex thin-wall mouldings and high-heat grades suit warm-service housings. Food-contact-suitable grades carry EU 10/2011 and FDA 21 CFR 177.1640 declarations where required for packaging applications.
Forms are virgin granules; PCR/recycled HIPS is offered separately where circular content is specified. Packaging is typically 25 kg bags palletised, 500-1250 kg FIBC/jumbo bags, or octabins for bulk sheet lines, with FCL consignments standard for EU and GCC importers.
For EU buyers, REACH registration is confirmed and an Only Representative pathway coordinated where required; CLP labelling and SDS accompany shipments, and SABER/SASO is arranged for Saudi Arabia. Himalay's verified manufacturer/exporter partners supply HIPS with CoA per batch (MFR, impact, gloss where applicable), SDS, REACH/CLP compliance coordinated for EU, GHS labelling, and SABER for Saudi Arabia handled as part of the standard order flow.
