General Purpose Polystyrene
General purpose polystyrene (GPPS), also called crystal polystyrene, is a transparent, glossy, rigid styrenic homopolymer prized for optical clarity, dimensional stability, and easy processing. It is widely used for disposable cups and cutlery, food trays and clamshells, cosmetic and confectionery packaging, CD/DVD cases, light diffusers, and rigid sheet for thermoforming, though it is inherently brittle.
Grades are specified by melt-flow rate (MFR per ISO 1133 at 200 C/5 kg), Vicat softening temperature, and residual styrene monomer, with high-flow injection grades, high-heat grades, and extrusion/sheet grades offered. Buyers also specify clarity, mould-release, and any internal lubrication or antistatic requirement, with high-flow grades easing thin-wall filling and high-heat grades raising service temperature for hot-fill cups. Food-contact-suitable grades carry EU 10/2011 and FDA 21 CFR 177.1640 declarations where required, which is common given disposable tableware and food-packaging end uses.
Forms are virgin clear granules; PCR/recycled PS is offered separately where circular content is specified. Packaging is typically 25 kg bags palletised, 500-1250 kg FIBC/jumbo bags, or octabins for bulk sheet lines, with FCL consignments standard for EU and GCC importers.
For EU buyers, REACH registration is confirmed and an Only Representative pathway coordinated where required; CLP labelling and SDS accompany shipments, and SABER/SASO is arranged for Saudi Arabia. Himalay's verified manufacturer/exporter partners supply GPPS with CoA per batch (MFR, Vicat, residual monomer where applicable), SDS, REACH/CLP compliance coordinated for EU, GHS labelling, and SABER for Saudi Arabia handled as part of the standard order flow.
