Expandable Polystyrene
Expandable polystyrene (EPS) is polystyrene supplied as micro-pellet beads impregnated with a hydrocarbon blowing agent (typically pentane). On steam pre-expansion and moulding, the beads expand and fuse into rigid, lightweight closed-cell foam used for protective packaging, cold-chain boxes, insulation boards and panels, void formers, lost-foam casting patterns, and lightweight construction fill.
Grades are specified by bead size fraction (fine through coarse, matched to part thickness and surface finish), pentane content, and product family: packaging-grade, insulation-grade, and flame-retardant (FR) grade with a brominated/polymeric flame-retardant additive for building applications meeting relevant Euroclass/IS fire requirements. Buyers specify bead size distribution, target moulded density, and FR status. Food-contact-suitable packaging grades carry EU 10/2011 declarations where the end use requires them.
Forms are pentane-bearing EPS beads. Because of the volatile pentane blowing agent, EPS beads are typically classified for transport (commonly UN 2211, polymeric beads, expandable, evolving flammable vapour) and shipped with ADR/IMDG documentation; packaging is typically lined 25 kg bags or 500-1000 kg octabins/FIBC under controlled storage, with FCL consignments standard.
For EU buyers, REACH registration is confirmed and an Only Representative pathway coordinated where required; CLP labelling, SDS, and transport documentation accompany shipments, and SABER/SASO is arranged for Saudi Arabia. Himalay's verified manufacturer/exporter partners supply EPS with CoA per batch (bead size, pentane content, where applicable FR status), SDS, REACH/CLP compliance coordinated for EU, GHS labelling, and SABER for Saudi Arabia handled as part of the standard order flow.
