Needle Valves
Frequently Asked Questions
- When should I specify a needle valve rather than a small ball or globe valve?
- Needle valves are the choice where fine, repeatable throttling or isolation of an instrument is needed at low flow, since the tapered needle gives gradual control and a tight metal-to-metal or soft seat. They excel on gauge roots, sample lines and metering duty. The trade-off is high pressure drop and limited capacity, so for on/off isolation at full bore a small ball valve is cheaper, and for larger modulating duty a globe or control valve is the better fit.
- What's the MOQ for needle valves?
- Because needle valves are small commodity instrument items, MOQs run higher: for standard 316SS instrument needle valves, typical MOQ starts at around 100-500 pieces, depending on manufacturer and configuration. For high-pressure or exotic-alloy (Monel/Inconel) units: as few as 25-100 pieces per type/material. Mixed-configuration orders under one specification package generally accept smaller quantities per line item.
- Are NACE and pressure certifications available?
- Yes, where specified. Partner manufacturers can supply needle valves in NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156-compliant construction for sour gas, with material certificates (EN 10204 3.1), hardness verification and hydrostatic test reports. PED-CE assessment can be arranged for EU import, and oxygen-clean or special-cleaning preparation is available where the service demands it.
- Which stem, packing, seat and end connections can be specified?
- Stems are offered as non-rotating vee-tip (metal-to-metal), regulating/metering and soft-seat PCTFE for bubble-tight low-pressure shut-off; packing is PTFE to about 230 C or flexible graphite for higher temperatures. End connections include NPT/BSP threads, DIN 2353 compression tube fittings, socket-weld and butt-weld, with gauge-root, block-and-bleed and multi-valve manifold variants on request.
- Which end-client approvals do your MSME partners hold?
- A subset of Himalay's partner network holds approvals from Shell, ExxonMobil, BP, TotalEnergies, Aramco, ADNOC, PDO, QatarEnergy, KOC and ONGC for instrumentation supply. Share your end-client AVL at inquiry stage and we match a qualified partner; audits can be arranged on a supplier-development track.
- How long does a needle valve order take?
- Catalogue 316SS instrument needle valves: roughly 3-5 weeks manufacture, test and packaging, then sea freight. High-pressure or exotic-alloy units and manifold assemblies: typically 6-10 weeks manufacturing. Full CIF to Rotterdam, Antwerp, Jebel Ali or Dammam: typically 8-12 weeks door-to-door for standard items, 14-20 weeks for engineered specials.
