About Welding Jigs
Welding jigs are dedicated tooling assemblies that locate, clamp and orient component parts in the correct relative position so a fabricated weldment can be assembled and welded repeatably to print. They are used wherever multiple parts must be joined to tight positional tolerances across a production run, typically in automotive sub-assemblies, structural fabrication, furniture and chassis work, where hand-marking and tacking would be too slow or inconsistent. A well-designed jig fixes location while leaving torch access and weld-shrinkage allowances clear. Common variants range from simple bench plate-and-stop jigs through rotating and indexing jigs to multi-station welding fixtures with pneumatic toggle clamps; turn-tables and positioners may be integrated where seam access demands it. Locating and clamping practice generally follows the same datum and 3-2-1 principles used for machining fixtures, and dimensional acceptance is often checked against weldment tolerance frameworks such as ISO 13920 for general weld tolerances and ISO 2768 for machined features. Bodies are typically fabricated from mild or structural steel, with hardened and ground locators, replaceable bushings and copper or chromed backing bars where heat and spatter are a concern; high-duty contact points may be tool steel hardened to a specified HRC. Each jig is usually proven against a master sample or first-article weldment, with repeatability and clamp-up verified before release. At Himalay, welding jigs are made to your drawing or sample, with material specification, locator hardness and clamping scheme agreed up front; dimensional reports, first-article checks and material certificates such as EN 10204 3.1 can be provided where specified, and any heat-treatment or surface-protection requirements are coordinated as part of the standard order flow.
