About Specialized / Heavy-Duty Seals
Specialized heavy-duty seals are large-section and high-load sealing elements engineered for mobile equipment, mining, steel, marine, and heavy-industrial machinery where shock loads, contamination, and large dimensions defeat standard catalogue seals. The family centres on duo-cone (metal face / mechanical face) seals, often called floating or toric seals, which use two metal rings running face-to-face energised by toric (O-ring) rubber loads to seal track rollers, idlers, final drives, and wheel hubs against abrasive slurry. It also covers heavy-duty rod and piston seals for large hydraulic cylinders, oversized rotary shaft seals, large bore O-rings and back-up rings, and bespoke moulded or machined seals for rolling-mill, dredger, and offshore equipment. Duo-cone seal metal rings are typically a hardened, corrosion- and wear-resistant cast alloy iron (high-chromium or Ni-hard type), lapped to a precise face, while the toric rings use NBR, HNBR, FKM, or silicone selected for temperature and media. Large hydraulic seals use polyurethane, NBR, and filled PTFE in anti-extrusion designs for high pressure and side load. Selection considers shaft or bore size, speed, contamination severity, temperature, and load, with face hardness and flatness critical for duo-cone life. Through Himalay, partner manufacturers can typically supply metal and elastomer material certificates to EN 10204 3.1 where specified, hardness and face-flatness inspection, dimensional reports, and RoHS/REACH declarations for EU import; the metal alloy, toric compound, and any NDT or test documentation are coordinated as part of the standard order flow.
