Sheet metal screws are fully threaded, sharp-pointed fasteners with a coarse, high-thread profile designed to grip thin metal, sheet and panel materials, forming a strong hold in a pre-drilled or punched hole. They are a core assembly fastener for ducting, enclosures, automotive panels, appliances and general sheet-metal fabrication, where the thread must bite reliably into thin gauge material. The category is closely related to self-tapping screws and is classified by thread/point type: type A (sharp gimlet point for thin sheet), type AB and B (blunt point with finer thread for thicker sheet and a cleaner formed thread), and type C (machine-screw thread for a removable, machine-thread-compatible joint).
