About Precision Sheet Parts
Precision sheet parts are tight-tolerance sheet-metal components where dimensional accuracy, flatness, hole position and finish are critical, typically for electronics enclosures, telecom and server chassis, medical and instrumentation housings, EMI shields and battery and power-electronics hardware. They combine laser or punch cutting, CNC press-brake bending, hardware insertion (self-clinching nuts, standoffs and studs to PEM-type standards), tapping and precision welding, with general tolerances usually specified to ISO 2768 fine or medium and critical features toleranced individually; welded accuracy may reference ISO 13920, and series work can run under an IATF 16949 system. Materials generally span cold-rolled and stainless 304/316 steel, aluminium 5052/6061, galvanised and pre-plated sheet, and copper or brass for shielding and busbars, in gauges typically from around 0.5 to 3 mm. Tight bend tolerances, controlled grain direction and consistent hardware fits are essential because these parts must mate with PCBs, connectors and adjacent assemblies without rework. Finishes include powder coat to fine cosmetic standards, anodising (clear and colour), chromate and chem-film (Alodine) for conductivity, zinc and tin plating, passivation and silk-screen or laser marking. Verification usually covers first-article inspection, CMM dimensional reports, flatness and hole-position checks, and cosmetic acceptance criteria.
