Power adapters and converters bridge incompatible plug systems and voltage levels so that equipment can be powered safely away from its native supply. The family splits into two groups: travel/plug adapters, which only change the physical connector geometry, and voltage converters/transformers, which step 110-120 V up to 220-240 V (or down) for appliances rated to a single voltage band. They are sourced for travel-goods retail, hospitality, AV and IT installation, and OEM equipment shipped to mixed-voltage regions across the EU and GCC. Key parameters for plug adapters are the input and output socket patterns (Schuko, BS 1363, US, universal multi-fit), rated current and voltage, and whether earthing is carried through; safety design follows IEC 60884 principles for the socket interface. Voltage converters are specified by continuous power rating (VA/W), conversion direction, regulation type (toroidal/laminated transformer versus electronic), no-load loss, and protection features. Construction uses flame-retardant thermoplastic or metal enclosures, shuttered outputs on better designs, and thermal cut-outs or fuses on converters; transformers add a magnetic core, primary/secondary windings and an earthed chassis. Buyers should note that a simple plug adapter does not change voltage, an important selection point. Options include surge protection, USB charging, multi-country fold-out pin sets, and rack-mount step-up/step-down units.
