About Metal Bushings
Metal bushings are cylindrical plain-bearing sleeves that provide a low-friction, replaceable wear surface between a shaft and its housing, carrying radial or, with flanges, combined loads. Solid bronze, sintered bronze, cast iron, steel and gunmetal bushes are used widely in pumps, gearboxes, construction and agricultural machinery, automotive linkages and general rotating or oscillating joints where a simple, robust bearing is preferred over rolling elements.
Wrapped and solid bushes are commonly dimensioned to ISO 3547 (with DIN 1494 for wrapped bronze), and sintered self-lubricating bronze bushes to ISO 2795; types include plain cylindrical, flanged, thrust washers and grooved or holed variants for lubricant distribution. Key specs cover bore and outside diameter with their tolerances (commonly H7/H8 bore after fitting), wall thickness, length, load and surface speed (PV value).
Materials are selected by load, speed and lubrication — CuSn8/CuSn12 bronzes, leaded bronzes, gunmetal LG2, aluminium bronze for higher load, and sintered grades impregnated with oil — with optional graphite plugs or solid-lubricant inserts. Cast iron and steel bushes are used where cost or strength governs. Finishes, oil grooves, lubrication holes and oil impregnation are applied per the application and fit allowance.
Dimensional accuracy, hardness and PV capability are normally agreed against the drawing. Himalay coordinates material traceability and EN 10204 3.1 certificates, dimensional and hardness verification, and oil-content or porosity reports for sintered parts where specified, alongside RoHS/REACH declarations, handled as part of the standard order flow.
