    About Machining Fixtures

Machining fixtures are work-holding assemblies that locate and clamp a workpiece rigidly during milling, drilling, boring or turning so that cutting forces are resisted and features are produced to tolerance repeatably. They are used across CNC machine shops and production lines wherever parts must be held to a known datum and machined in cycle, replacing manual setup and improving accuracy, safety and throughput. A good fixture fully constrains the part, presents the machined faces, and clears chips and coolant. Variants include dedicated single-part fixtures, modular fixtures on grid plates, vice-and-soft-jaw setups, tombstone and multi-part fixtures for horizontal machining centres, and hydraulic or pneumatic clamping fixtures for high-volume work. Location follows the 3-2-1 datum principle with hardened locators and replaceable drill bushings, and machined-feature acceptance is commonly referenced to ISO 2768 general tolerances, with critical positions controlled to tighter limits per the part drawing. Bodies are typically steel or aluminium tooling plate; locators, rest pads and bushings are hardened tool steel to a specified HRC, and wear surfaces may be ground and coated. Clamping is chosen to hold without distorting the part, and repeatability is verified against a master before release. At Himalay, machining fixtures are made to your drawing or sample, with locator hardness, clamping method and datum scheme agreed in advance; first-article and dimensional reports, material certificates such as EN 10204 3.1, and any heat-treatment or coating requirements can be provided where specified and are coordinated as part of the standard order flow.
