Ketone Solvents
Ketone solvents are carbonyl-bearing organic liquids — acetone, methyl ethyl ketone (MEK), methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK), cyclohexanone and diacetone alcohol — used as fast-evaporating solvents for coatings, inks, adhesives, resins and cleaning, as well as reaction media and laboratory reagents. Buyers in coatings, adhesives, printing, pharmaceuticals and analytical laboratories select them by purity, evaporation rate, water content and residue, because these drive solvency strength and drying behaviour.
Grades span technical/commercial through laboratory reagent and analytical reagent (AR/ACS), with HPLC and GC grades for instrument work. Spec sheets commonly cover assay by GC, distillation range, water content (Karl Fischer), acidity, colour (Pt-Co) and residue on evaporation; acetone in particular is widely referenced against ASTM D329, which covers distillation range, assay, permanganate time and non-volatile matter. Forms include 2.5 L and smaller reagent bottles, 200–210 L steel drums, 1000 L IBCs and ISO tanks for bulk; ketone solvents are flammable and packed accordingly, with grade-appropriate closures and liners specified per item.
