About Inspection Fixtures
Inspection fixtures, often called checking fixtures or gauges, locate a part on its functional datums and present its features for rapid, repeatable dimensional verification using indicators, pins, profile gauges or a CMM. They are used in quality control and incoming-goods checks wherever measuring each part freehand would be slow or inconsistent, particularly for sheet-metal panels, plastic mouldings, castings and trim parts where profile and hole position must be confirmed against print. The fixture fixes the part in its assembled orientation so deviations are read directly and traceably. Variants include go/no-go checking fixtures with feeler and pin gauges, profile and surface checking fixtures, hole-position and flush-and-gap fixtures, and CMM hold fixtures that present the part in a repeatable measuring posture. Location follows the part datum scheme, and acceptance is referenced to the drawing tolerances, with general features often tied to ISO 2768 and form features to GD&T callouts. Bodies are typically aluminium tooling plate, steel or stable tooling board, with hardened and ground locators, replaceable bushings and datum pins; net-form surfaces may be machined to the part profile. Each fixture is normally correlated against a master or first-article part and gauge R&R checked before release. At Himalay, inspection fixtures are produced to your drawing, math data or sample, with datum scheme, gauging method and net surfaces agreed in advance; correlation reports, gauge R&R support and material certificates such as EN 10204 3.1 can be provided where specified, and any duplicate-gauge or calibration needs are coordinated as part of the standard order flow.
