Extension Boards
Extension boards (power strips, trailing sockets, multi-outlet bars) provide multiple switched or unswitched socket-outlets on a flexible cord, distributing a single mains feed to several portable loads. They are sourced for offices, hospitality, retail, light industrial benches and consumer retail across the EU and GCC. The market-defining feature is the socket pattern and plug fitted to the lead, which must match the destination standard, so buyers specify by country before anything else. Common configurations include 3-, 4-, 6- and 8-way boards, individually switched outlets, master switches, integrated overload protection and combined USB charging. Boards built for European markets typically use Schuko (CEE 7) outlets to IEC 60884, while UK and GCC boards use the BS 1363 13 A system with a fused plug. Rated current is usually 10-16 A at 230 V; cord cross-section (commonly 0.75-1.5 sq mm) and length are matched to that current to avoid voltage drop and overheating. Construction uses flame-retardant thermoplastic housings (glow-wire tested), shuttered live contacts, tin- or nickel-plated brass terminals, and strain-relieved cords. Many boards integrate a resettable thermal cut-out or circuit breaker and, on premium variants, surge protection rated by clamping voltage and joule capacity. Options include wall-mount keyholes, cable management, individual neon indicators, and master/child switching for energy saving.
