About Drywall Screw
Drywall screws are sharp-pointed, hardened screws designed to fix plasterboard (drywall/gypsum board) to timber or light-gauge metal studs, with a bugle head that countersinks into the board face without tearing the paper. They are a high-volume construction and drylining fastener, optimised for fast driving with a screw gun and for holding board securely while leaving a recess ready for jointing compound. The category splits mainly by substrate and point type: coarse-thread drywall screws for fixing board to timber studs, fine-thread screws for fixing to light-gauge steel studs, and self-drilling (needle or drill-point) screws for thicker steel sections. The defining bugle head spreads load and seats flush, and the Phillips (No.2) recess is standard, with some Torx variants for power driving. Sizes are commonly 3.5 mm diameter in lengths from 25 mm to 75 mm and beyond, matched to board and stud thickness. Materials are hardened, case-hardened carbon steel for driving performance and pull-through resistance. Coatings are typically black phosphate for interior board fixing and zinc or specialised coatings where humidity resistance is needed, with stainless or coated variants for damp areas and exterior board systems. The key specifications are thread pitch, point type and head seating behaviour. Himalay coordinates material traceability with EN 10204 3.1 certificates where requested, dimensional and recess inspection, core-hardness and salt-spray data for coated lots and RoHS declarations; consistent point sharpness, bulk and collated packaging and SABER routing for GCC entry are coordinated as part of the standard order flow.
