About Die Casting Moulds
Die casting moulds, or die-casting dies, are the hardened steel tools used in high-pressure die casting, where molten non-ferrous metal is injected at high pressure and velocity into a steel die cavity and rapidly solidified. The process gives thin walls, fine detail, high dimensional repeatability, and excellent surface finish at very high production rates, making it standard for automotive, electrical, lighting, and consumer hardware parts in aluminium, zinc, and magnesium alloys.
Dies are built around hot-work tool steels, most commonly H13, with cavity and core inserts, slides, ejection, and conformal or drilled cooling. H13 die elements are typically hardened to around HRC 44-50 for aluminium service (lower for high-thermal-load zones) and frequently nitrided or PVD-coated to resist heat-checking and soldering. Mould-base components often follow DME or HASCO standards for interchangeability. Die life depends on alloy: zinc dies can run into the millions of shots, while aluminium dies, facing higher melt temperatures, more typically run into the low-to-mid hundreds of thousands.
Cast alloys include aluminium (ADC12, A380), zinc (Zamak 3/5), and magnesium, with ASTM B85/B86 and EN equivalents.
Configuration covers single and multi-cavity dies, unit dies, hot- and cold-chamber compatibility, and integrated trim tooling, with first-article and capability verification.
Himalay coordinates material traceability via EN 10204 3.1 certificates where requested, dimensional and porosity (RT) reports, pressure-test certificates where relevant, RoHS/REACH declarations, and PED/CE support where applicable, all coordinated as part of the standard order flow.
