Cold Room Systems
Cold room systems are walk-in refrigerated and freezer enclosures built from insulated sandwich panels with matched refrigeration plant, used for bulk chilled and frozen storage. Buyers in the EU and GCC source them for food processing and distribution, catering and hospitality, supermarkets, pharmaceutical and vaccine warehousing, and agricultural cold chains. A cold room is an engineered system rather than a single appliance: it combines modular PUF or PIR insulated panels, personnel and product doors, a condensing unit and evaporator(s) sized to the heat load, and controls, all configured to the room size, target temperature and ambient. Selection is driven by internal volume, target temperature band (chiller 0 to +8 C, freezer -18 to -25 C, or blast/ultra-low for special duty), insulation thickness (commonly 60-200 mm by temperature), heat-load calculation including product, door openings and infiltration, and the ambient design temperature, which is decisive in hot GCC climates. EU imports follow the F-gas Regulation (EU) 517/2014, so refrigerants trend to low-GWP options such as R449A, R454C or R290/CO2 depending on size and safety classification. Construction uses PUF/PIR panels with cam-lock joints and food-grade liners, insulated doors with heaters on freezer rooms, vapour-tight seals, and microprocessor controls with alarms; flammable-refrigerant systems follow charge limits in IEC 60335-2-89. Options include blast capability, multiple temperature zones, ramps and strip curtains, and remote monitoring.
