- When should I specify a worm gearbox instead of a helical or bevel-helical unit?
- Choose a worm gearbox where you want a compact right-angle drive with a very high single-stage ratio, low cost, quiet running, or an inherent self-locking tendency for load-holding. The trade-off is efficiency: worms run roughly 60-90 percent depending on ratio, against ~96-98 percent per stage for helical. For continuous high-power duty where running cost and heat matter, a bevel-helical unit is usually the better right-angle choice; for intermittent, compact or holding duty, the worm often wins on size and price.
- What's the MOQ for worm gearboxes?
- It depends on frame size and ratio. Standard NMRV/NRV aluminium sizes built to catalogue: typical MOQ starts around 25-100 pieces depending on manufacturer and configuration. Larger cast-iron or engineered worm units: as few as 2-10 pieces per size/ratio. Mixed orders consolidated under one spec package generally accept smaller quantities per line.
- Which certifications and compliance options are available?
- Where specified, partner manufacturers provide CE marking under the Machinery Directive, ATEX/IECEx for hazardous-area duty, and ISO 9001 quality systems. Load and efficiency test reports, self-locking verification for the specified ratio, and material traceability can be supplied. IP55/IP65 ingress and corrosion-resistant finishes are available where the duty requires them.
- What ratios, mountings and outputs can be configured, and is self-locking guaranteed?
- Single-stage ratios typically run 5:1 to 100:1, with double-reduction or NMRV+NRV combinations reaching several hundred to one. Inputs accept IEC/NEMA adapters or free input shafts; outputs are solid or hollow shaft with foot, B5/B14 flange or shaft-mounted positions and selectable worm orientation. Self-locking depends on lead angle and ratio and is verified per duty rather than assumed for every unit. Lubrication is ISO VG 220/320, often synthetic PAO and lifetime-filled.

- How long does a worm gearbox order take?
- Catalogue NMRV/NRV worm gearmotors: typically 5-9 weeks manufacture, test and packaging. Larger cast-iron or engineered worm units: 10-14 weeks. Full CIF to Rotterdam, Antwerp, Jebel Ali or Dammam is typically 8-12 weeks door-to-door for standard product, and 14-20 weeks for engineered or large units.
