Surgical Operating Lights
Surgical operating lights are high-performance active luminaires that illuminate the operative field in theatres and major-procedure rooms. Their purpose is to deliver bright, near-shadowless, colour-true light deep into cavities while staying cool and easy to disinfect, which makes photometric and electrical-safety specification the centre of any sourcing decision.
Variants include single and twin (and occasionally triple) cupola configurations on ceiling spring-arm suspensions, with LED emitters now the dominant technology. Buyers usually specify against IEC 60601-1 for basic safety and IEC 60601-2-41 for surgical luminaires. Central illuminance is frequently quoted in lux at 1 m within the broad range referenced by the standard (commonly tens of thousands up to around 160,000 lux), with correlated colour temperature typically selectable in the 3500-6700 K region, colour rendering index Ra often in the 85-100 band and an emphasised saturated-red R9 value. Illuminated-field diameter, depth of illumination, shadow dilution and heat at the surgeon's head are further comparison points.
Construction centres on sealed, ventilated LED cupolas with sterilisable central handles, cleanable surfaces suited to repeated disinfection, and back-up power to restore illuminance quickly after a supply interruption, as the standard expects. EU MDR 2017/745 classification depends on the manufacturer's stated intended use.
Configuration options usually include camera and monitor integration, multiple colour-temperature presets, ambient/endoscopy modes, laminar-flow-compatible profiles and a range of ceiling-height suspension tubes.
