Speed Sensors
Automotive speed sensors measure rotational speed and position, supplying wheel speed for ABS/ESC, crankshaft and camshaft position for engine timing, transmission and vehicle-speed signals, and turbo/shaft speeds. By detecting a passing toothed wheel, magnet or encoder, they output a frequency or digital signal the control units use for stability, ignition and speed indication. They serve OEM assembly, tier-1 module builders and the aftermarket across cars, commercial vehicles, buses, two-wheelers and off-highway machines. India's sensor base gives EU and GCC buyers a cost-competitive source across passive and active technologies.
Variants include passive variable-reluctance (inductive) sensors and active Hall-effect or magnetoresistive (AMR/GMR) sensors, the latter giving signal down to zero speed for modern ABS and directional sensing. Key parameters are sensing principle, air-gap range, output type (analog sine, digital pulse, two-wire current-modulated PWM, SENT), operating temperature, voltage (12 V or 24 V system) and connector pinout. Quality management is commonly aligned to IATF 16949, electromagnetic compatibility to UN/ECE R10 and environmental robustness to ISO 16750; wheel-speed sensors are integral to braking systems approved under UN/ECE R13/R13-H. Sensor ICs may carry AEC-Q qualification.
Construction uses a Hall or MR sensing element and signal-conditioning ASIC, or a coil-and-magnet assembly for passive types, in an overmoulded thermoplastic body with integrated mounting and sealed cable or connector exit, rated for under-chassis spray, vibration and thermal cycling.
