About Special Process Castings
Special process castings are parts made by precision or specialised casting routes β investment (lost-wax) casting, shell moulding, centrifugal casting, lost-foam and low-pressure die casting β chosen where tight tolerances, fine detail, near-net shape or specific metallurgical structure are required. They suit turbine and pump components, valve internals, aerospace and medical hardware, and complex parts that would be costly to machine from solid.
Investment casting produces excellent surface finish and dimensional accuracy across carbon, alloy and stainless steels and nickel/cobalt superalloys, generally working to grades such as ASTM A351, A352 (low-temperature) or aerospace specifications; centrifugal casting yields dense, sound cylindrical parts such as rings, bushes and rolls. Key specs cover process, alloy, linear and geometric tolerance, and surface finish.
Alloys are selected by strength, temperature and corrosion duty, with heat treatment (solution treatment, ageing, hardening) and finishes such as passivation, plating or coating applied as required. Ceramic-shell investment moulds allow thin walls and fine cored features that reduce downstream machining, while controlled solidification in centrifugal casting drives out porosity toward the bore. Near-net allowances, gating and datum schemes are defined on the drawing for any finish machining.
Dimensional accuracy, internal soundness and mechanical properties are normally agreed against grade and acceptance class. Himalay coordinates material traceability and EN 10204 3.1/3.2 certificates, chemical and mechanical reports, plus NDT such as radiographic, ultrasonic, fluorescent dye-penetrant or magnetic-particle inspection, and NACE or PED-CE/SABER documentation where specified, handled as part of the standard order flow.
