Source Measure Units
Source measure units (SMUs) combine a precision programmable source and a high-resolution measurement instrument in one channel, able to source voltage while measuring current (or source current while measuring voltage) with tightly coupled timing. They effectively integrate a low-noise power supply, a programmable load and a precise multimeter, which makes them central to semiconductor, component and materials characterisation. Typical buyers include semiconductor and electronics R&D labs, LED and sensor makers, battery and materials researchers, and production-test teams across the EU and GCC. The family covers benchtop single- and multi-channel SMUs, modular SMUs for automated test systems, and high-precision low-current units. Key parameters generally include the voltage and current source/measure ranges, the smallest measurable current (often down to the picoampere or femtoampere level on precision units), resolution, accuracy, and whether the unit offers two- or four-quadrant operation so it can both source and sink across positive and negative voltages and currents.
