    A servo planetary gearbox is a low-backlash epicyclic reducer designed to mount directly to a servo motor and deliver accurate, repeatable positioning under fast reversing duty. The sun gear is driven by the servo, planet gears share load inside the ring gear, and the carrier provides a stiff coaxial output. The defining feature is tightly controlled backlash and high torsional stiffness, so the output tracks the motor faithfully through rapid accelerations and direction changes.

    Single-stage servo units typically deliver about 3:1 to 10:1, with two-stage builds reaching roughly 100:1. Continuous output torque spans from a few Nm in small frames to several hundred or more Nm in larger ones, with per-stage efficiency commonly around 95-98%. Gear accuracy is governed by ISO 1328 / AGMA 2015 and load capacity by ISO 6336 or AGMA 2101. Backlash is the headline parameter: precision servo grades target roughly 1-3 arcmin, with sub-1 arcmin available for the most demanding axes, while economy servo grades may run nearer 5-8 arcmin. Torsional stiffness (Nm/arcmin) is specified alongside backlash for dynamic response.

    Construction uses case-hardened, ground or lapped alloy-steel gears (20MnCr5 / 18CrNiMo7-6), precision rolling bearings, aluminium or cast-iron housings and low-friction seals, typically with lifetime-filled synthetic lubrication.

    Configuration centres on a servo-motor flange adapter matched to the chosen motor; outputs as solid shaft, keyed, or flange; foot or face mounting; and a selected backlash class and service factor. Many frames are sealed and lubricated for life.
