  • Insulation Testers

Insulation testers, commonly called insulation resistance testers or meggers, apply a high DC test voltage and measure the resulting insulation resistance to verify the integrity of cables, motor windings, transformers, switchgear and installation wiring. They are essential for electrical commissioning, preventive maintenance and periodic safety verification, and are a steady sourcing item for EU and GCC contractors, utilities and panel-building distributors.

The family includes hand-held analog and digital testers and motorised benchtop units. Common test voltages are 250 V, 500 V, 1000 V and 2500 V, with higher-voltage units to 5 kV, 10 kV or beyond for HV apparatus and cable testing. Key specification parameters include the available test-voltage steps, resistance measurement range (often megohms to teraohms), short-circuit test current, and diagnostic functions such as PI (polarisation index), DAR, timed tests and ramp/step-voltage modes. Safety is governed by IEC 61010-1 with a measurement category and voltage rating; EMC under IEC 61326-1.

Construction typically uses a rugged, often IP-rated field enclosure with safety-rated test leads and interlocks, plus rechargeable or mains supply on benchtop models. Options commonly include memory and logging, PC/USB or Bluetooth download, guard terminals for surface-leakage rejection, and timed automatic test sequences.

Configuration choices that matter at inquiry stage include the required test-voltage range, maximum resistance range, diagnostic features, and whether traceable calibration is needed at delivery. Himalay's verified manufacturer partners supply insulation testers with test reports and CoC, CE (LVD/EMC), and RoHS/REACH, with SABER (Saudi Arabia) coordinated as part of the standard order flow; ISO/IEC 17025 calibration and traceability or factory acceptance testing are arranged where specified.
