    About Industrial Heavy-Duty Gearboxes

Industrial heavy-duty gearboxes are enclosed gear drives engineered for high torque density, continuous duty and elevated shock loading in process and material-handling plant. They cover parallel-shaft helical, right-angle helical-bevel and herringbone (double-helical) architectures, transmitting power from a few kW to several megawatts while reducing motor or turbine speed to the slow, high-torque output that extruders, cranes, hoists, cooling-tower fans, rolling mills, sugar mills and conveyors demand. Unlike general gearmotors, these units are selected on application service factor and thermal rating as much as on nominal torque.

Designs span single- to four-stage trains with total ratios from roughly 3:1 to over 100:1, output torque into the hundreds of thousands of Nm, and efficiency near 97-98% per helical pass. Rating follows AGMA 2001/2101 and ISO 6336 for load capacity, with enclosed-drive practice to AGMA 6010/6013 and gear quality to ISO 1328 / AGMA 2015. Service-factor selection is duty-driven: steady process loads may use SF around 1.25-1.5, while crane, hoist and mill duty per FEM/ISO classes (M5-M8) and AGMA load-class tables can demand SF 2.0-3.0 to cover shock and reversing.

Gears are case-hardened, ground alloy steel (18CrNiMo7-6 / 20MnCr5) in fabricated or cast housings, on heavy-duty bearings with forced or splash lubrication and, where heat load is high, oil coolers or fan cooling. Shafts run in generously sized roller bearings to carry radial, axial and moment loads.

Integration options include free input shaft, motor or turbine coupling, solid or hollow output with shrink disc or flange, foot or shaft mounting, backstops, and synthetic PAO ISO VG 220/320 oil sized to ambient and thermal duty.

Himalay's MSME partners manufacture heavy-duty gear drives with gear-rating to AGMA/ISO 6336, ISO 9001 quality systems, load and efficiency test reports and traceability; CE (Machinery Directive), ATEX/IECEx for hazardous areas, and SABER (Saudi Arabia) coordinated as part of the standard order flow.
