DC-DC Converters
Automotive DC-DC converters transform one DC voltage to another within a vehicle, most commonly stepping the high-voltage traction bus down to the 12 V (or 48 V) auxiliary supply in electric and hybrid vehicles, replacing the alternator's role. As power-electronic modules bridging HV and LV domains, isolation, efficiency and EMC behaviour are their defining quality factors. Converters are generally specified by input and output voltage range (e.g. 250-450 V or 400/800 V input to 12/24/48 V output), continuous and peak power, isolation, efficiency and cooling method. As HV/LV automotive electronics they reference UN/ECE R10 (EMC) at vehicle level, ISO 6469 / UN/ECE R100 electrical-safety expectations, AEC-Q-qualified components and ISO 16750 environmental loads; IATF 16949 quality systems are typical at qualified suppliers.
Construction includes a galvanically isolated power stage, a sealed die-cast aluminium enclosure with conformal-coated electronics, liquid- or air-cooling, HVIL interlock and shielded HV connectors. Materials and thermal design govern continuous power and reliability.
Options include uni- or bidirectional operation, CAN-controlled output, integration with on-board chargers, and program-specific connector/cooling interfaces.
